Doncaster Sheffield Airport is the UK’s newest purpose built international airport. It opened in April 2005 on the site of the former RAF Finningley air base and has one of the UK’s longest runways and the capacity to handle all types of international flights. In 2015 it handled over 856,000 passengers and offers flights to over 40 destinations through airlines such as TUI, Flybe, Thomas Cook, Wizz Air and Aer Lingus.
It’s owned by Peel Airports, who also own Durham Tees Valley and Liverpool John Lennon airports, and they are continuing to develop further services and destinations as they look to become the airport of choice for passengers in the South Yorkshire and Sheffield City Region. Their AdSmart campaign targeting affluent travelers in the 4 surrounding local authorities.
